Reads well for the diversity within its scope: studio/history/how-to and showcasing of practicing artists. Organized well also, with insets for some of the instructional items. I would have liked a bit more thoroughness at times in the instructional sections, equally a kickoff practitioner myself, simply to developing a amend sense of the social club of layering elements, as it's a key characteristic of the medium. Rankin is clearly enthusiastic and knowledgable even so very accessible in her own language. Ph Reads well for the variety within its telescopic: studio/history/how-to and showcasing of practicing artists. Organized well also, with insets for some of the instructional items. I would have liked a flake more thoroughness at times in the instructional sections, equally a beginning practitioner myself, just to developing a meliorate sense of the social club of layering elements, as it's a key characteristic of the medium. Rankin is conspicuously enthusiastic and knowledgable however very accessible in her ain language. Photos are really important and well counterbalanced against the text. ...more

Great overview of the various techniques for someone getting started with this medium.
This book is full of techniques and my favorite function was the numerous bright examples of artwork. Very inspiring and I all the same leafage through this book on a regular basis. Information technology's e'er near the studio table and is covered with picayune specs of wax, a tell tell sign that this book is loved. If yous have explored some offset encaustic techniques and are looking for something a little more than advanced this is a practiced management to travel in. This book is total of techniques and my favorite part was the numerous vivid examples of artwork. Very inspiring and I still leaf through this book on a regular basis. Am glad I read this after I started using encaustic methods. I am finding that I took a very unlike approach than annihilation described hither which means this medium has astonishing potential for uniqueness. This book shows the diverse approaches that can be fabricated with detailed descriptions, sources of materials and equipment. This is a perfect introduction to the method. .

Very comprehensive view of techniques and styles. I would have liked a little more than explanation of how some effects were created.
This plainly isn't the kind of book ane reads cover to cover. Just I have followed many of her techniques and projects in the volume, and have found it to exist a very useful studio guide. This patently isn't the kind of book 1 reads encompass to cover.
